Aluminium Conductor Alloy Reinforced (ACAR) is the concentric conductors used in overhead transmission line.ACAR conductor is composed of stranded wires of Aluminium 1350 ,reinforced by high strength Aluminium -Magnesium -Silicon(Al Mg Si) alloy wire or stranded core.
Due to different ACAR design, there will be different number of wires of Aluminum1350 & Al Mg Si alloy used. In most ACAR Construction, the Though the general design comprises the Al Mg Si alloy strands are stranded as central core. However, Al Mg Si alloy strands can be distributed in layers together with the Aluminium 1350 strands.
ACAR Conductor Application
Compared to equivalent AAC, AAAC or ACSR, the ACAR conductor has better mechanical and electrical properties. When design the transmission line, it takes into consideration the Ampacity, strength and light weight in conductor. It makes ACAR the best choice for its superior balance between the mechanical and electrical properties. Therefore, ACAR are extensively used in overhead transmission and distribution lines.
